We all theorize about this case. More maybe than most I try to use the facts as we know them and make them fit. But when the facts as found in newspaper stories, series and clippings are wrong, then the theory cannot be correct either. A good example of this is the chase on October 1, 1979 in Goleta. The published factoids about this event was so off, that my theorized chase route was 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Here's a point by point description:
1. FACTOID: The Biker fled towards a prime suspect's home.
TRUTH: The suspect fled away from the prime suspect's home.
2. FACTOID: The biker fled into the San Jose Creek after abandoning the bike.
TRUTH: The biker fled into a backyard of a house one block north of Cathedral Oaks (the main drag)
3. FACTOID: The chaser (SA Los) interrupted the crime scene and comforted the victims before chasing the suspect.
TRUTH: The SA did not encounter the victims until after the chase.
4. FACTOID: In the middle of the chase the SA had to do a U-Turn because he had lost the biker
TRUTH: The SA did the U-Turn in front of his house because his car was parked facing the opposite direction from where the biker had gone.
5. FACTOID: The SBSD was too understaffed to adequately patrol Goleta.
TRUTH: SA Los called 911 and the deputies were on the scene within minutes.
